We went to Salem yesterday.... I was very excited about taking a trip there cause if you look online, they have all kinds of shops and museums and houses relating to the witch trials. Unforunately, most of those things have all been reduced to cliche places containing witches hats, Harry Potter box, and figures of fairies and dragons. While I have nothing against that stuff in general (even enjoyed browsing some of the fairie/dragon stuff), it was a little disappointing to see that the whole town has become that. (Being a freak who actually likes history and especially likes the witch trials, I kept looking for something more... but none of the museums included anymore history than I already knew). I must admit though, some of the houses which are not labeled on the maps are absolutely beautiful old New England homes, and it was fun to drive around and look at them for a little while. Everyone says Salem is a fun place to head to on Halloween, and I could see that as being true, but it definitely wasn't that great for a day trip in the summer. Oh well.
We're heading today to see "Must Love Dogs". It got bad reviews for being a formula movie and a typical romantic comedy, which usually means I'll love it. (The book was really good as well, though, and there's been enough time since I read it that i won't be comparing the book and the movie) After that, we'll probably head to dinner out... have been behaving and cooking lately, and I don't feel like cooking today :)
